Azureberry

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 174 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous sturdy, angular stems covered in hard, ridged, black with white speckled bark, and the wood inside is mahogany-coloured.

The branches are short and thick with thousands of twigs that and are covered with very large amounts of large, wispy, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are solid grey with cyan edges, resistant and smooth.

In early spring it produces dozens of small, azure blossoms with slender, pointed petals. They are sturdy and have a strong scent that smells like a man.

In early autumn perforated fruits ripen. The sticky gold skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is sweet and spicy, and the soft blue flesh is very savoury and powdery. The grey seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.
