Crimson Citrus
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)This small fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 46 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a narrow, wavy trunk covered in thick, ridged, dark green bark, and inside, the very hard wood is white with black speckles.
The branches trail down across the ground and are covered with large amounts of small, thin leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are florescent purple and copper.
In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of giant, purple blossoms with crescent-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have an overpowering scent that smells like citrus.
In mid-summer it produces , oval fruit. The smooth crimson skin is delicate and inedible, and the soft pink flesh is spicy and juicy. The beige seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.
The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.
Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
