Copperberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 18 feet (5.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 76 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, wavy trunk covered in silky, black bark, and inside, the hard wood is copper-coloured.

The small handful of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with very large amounts of small, sickle shaped leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are generally peach.

In early spring, it produces dozens of small, purple blossoms with 6 umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have the faintest scent that smells like paint.

In early autumn it produces , spherical fruit. The rough cyan skin is delicate and sweet, and the soft vibrant blue flesh is bitter and oily. The crimson seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
