Copperberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This big fruit tree grows up to 34 feet (10.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 59 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, twisting trunk covered in hard, wrinkled, silver bark, and inside, the very hard wood is black.

The branches are short, thin and wispy and are covered with small bunches of tiny, sickle shaped leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are green with silver tips.

In early spring, it produces several small, pink blossoms with slender, pointed petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a faint scent that smells like leather.

In early autumn it produces small, circular fruit. The crispy copper skin is thin and inedible, and the soft green flesh is spicy and very dry. The yellow seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
