Yellow-Green Spined Succulent

Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)

This small cactus grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall. The wispy stem is yellow-green, and is covered in brittle faded green spines. The tear-shaped body is yellow-green, and is covered in hundreds of rigid dark grey spines.

It is slow growing, taking 11 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a single flower with grey petals and a yellow center grows at the top, reappearing after 2 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a tube made up of many tightly layered, narrow petals. It has no scent.

The cactus's skin is thin, the pink flesh is rough, and the orange sap is thin.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
