Crimson Trumpetvine

This small flower grows up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. Its drab red stems grow in bunches of 8 and are thin with a curved tip, and the miniature, lime green leaves are asymmetrical with smooth edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

A single tiny flower sits at the end of each stem. The flowers are 6 cm (2.4 inches) wide, with petals that are blood red in the center, red in the middle and lilac at the edges. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet made up of several raised, round-tipped petals. They detach easily.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like freshly washed clothes, and it has very little pollen, but can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind.
