Copperberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 19 feet (5.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 72 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in fine, smooth, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the very hard wood is black with white speckles.

The branches are short stubs and are covered with large amounts of large, 2 pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of copper that gradient shifts to washed-out green at the top.

In early spring, it produces lots of large, turquoise blossoms with asymmetrical petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have an intensely strong scent that smells like onion.

In late summer it produces , circular fruit. The rubbery dark grey skin is stretchy and slightly savoury, and the very soft lime flesh is sweet and powdery. The gold seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
