Blackthorn

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for around 26 years. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous wide, curved stems covered in thick, rough, dark brown bark, and the wood inside is black.

The branches are short stubs with thousands of twigs that and are covered with very large amounts of huge, wispy, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are slate and light brown, tough and sticky.

It produces handfuls of giant, pink flowers with long, narrow petals. They detach easily and have a weak scent that smells like rainy days. In late spring it forms largelight grey, winged seeds that float and land far away.

The stems are covered in large spikes.
It can grow in even the most barren lands.
