Bloodfruit Tree

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 50 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, curved trunk covered in very thick, rough, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is pale brown-grey.

The tangled mess of branches are long and slender and are covered with copious amounts of miniature, broad, flat leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are found in green, peach and bright green varieties.

In early spring, it produces lots of giant, light brown blossoms with perforated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like petrol.

In early autumn it produces very large, long, curved fruit. The rubbery blood red skin is thin and sour, and the crunchy olive flesh is sweet and sour and powdery. The ashy red seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
