Whispering Willow

This big shrub grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for around 32 years. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous knobbly, crooked stems covered in wrinkled, dark brown bark, and the wood inside is brown.

The branches are short, thin and wispy that and are covered with sparse amounts of small, very thin, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are yellow-green with beige tips, tough and crispy.

In mid-spring it produces lots of large, cream blossoms with stiff, pointed petals. They are very delicate and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like pine needles.

In late winter tiny circular fruits ripen. The rough gold skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is extremely sour, and the very soft red flesh is spicy and juicy. The blood red seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.
