Bloodblossom

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 34 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, wavy trunk covered in thin, silky, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the very hard wood is black with white speckles.

The thin clumps of branches are short and thin and are covered with copious amounts of large, pleated leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are blood red at the bottom and silver with lime edges at the top.

In early spring, it produces dozens of medium-sized, olive blossoms with pleated petals. They are very delicate and have a strong scent that smells like pepper.

In early autumn it produces , long, straight fruit. The crispy green skin is delicate and inedible, and the slightly crunchy yellow flesh is bitter and powdery. The yellow seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
