Bloodvine

Flower type: Annual (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.8 feet (56 cm) tall. Its silver stem is wispy and straight, and the large, blood red leaves are pleated with ripped edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Hundreds of small flowers grow in a bunch at the end of the stem. The flowers are 4 cm (1.6 inches) wide, with washed-out green petals that gradient shift to beige on the outer edge. The central disk is azure. The flower head is largely flat with 28 widely spaced narrow petals. They detach easily.

It has a weak scent that smells like marzipan, and it has a modest amount of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to bees.

It blooms only at night.
The leaves are bitter, but very healthy.
