Aridleaf Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This big fruit tree grows up to 44 feet (13.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 59 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in thin, ridged, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the hard wood is yellow.

The small handful of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with copious amounts of giant, long, tapering leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are sky blue and grey.

In early spring, it produces dozens of tiny, copper blossoms with oval-shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like vanilla.

In late autumn it produces very large, broad, flat fruit. The leathery magenta skin is stretchy and inedible, and the soft grey flesh is savoury and very dry. The yellow seeds are large and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
