This gray moss is commonly found growing in giant clumps In bogs, and On trees.
It is short, growing up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps, and is extremely delicate.
When mature, emerald triangular capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-summer to release thousands of spores; it does not cause many allergic reactions.

It commonly grows in large patches.
The sap causes itchiness of the skin
