Burgundy Moss

This burgundy moss is commonly found blanketing large areas In heathlands.
It is short, growing up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. It forms in thick clumps and they are slow to spread and grow, and is very tough.
When mature, emerald spiral capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-summer to release thousands of spores; it can cause severe allergic reactions.
