Bloodberry
Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)This big fruit tree grows up to 37 feet (11.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 79 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.
It has a slender, straight trunk covered in thin, silky, light gray bark, and inside, the dense wood is pale brown.
The small bunches of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with copious amounts of small, wispy leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are solid blood red with red patches.
In early spring, it produces hundreds of giant, violet blossoms with 3 triangular shaped petals. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like old books.
In mid-autumn it produces tiny, finger-like fruit. The smooth azure skin is thin and inedible, and the crunchy azure flesh is salty and sour and powdery. The olive seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.
The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.
