Violet Fruit Tree

This huge fruit tree grows up to 70 feet (21.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 23 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, wonky trunk covered in thin, smooth, burgundy bark, and inside, the soft wood is copper-coloured.

The branches are very long and thin and are covered with small amounts of miniature, sickle shaped leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are deep purple and violet.

In early spring, it produces thousands of large, violet blossoms with slender, pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like burning wood.

In early autumn it produces tiny, circular fruit. The sticky copper skin is delicate and inedible, and the very soft hazel flesh is bitter and juicy. The pastel yellow seeds are large and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
