Amber

Flower type: Perennial (Sheds its leaves in winter)

This small flower grows up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. Its brown stem is wispy and straight with a curved tip, and the small, brown leaves are needle-like with wavy edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Hundreds of small flowers grow in drooping bunches like grapes. The flowers are 5 cm (2.0 inches) wide, with petals that are amber on the edges and blue at the center. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 17 petals. They detach easily.

It has the faintest scent that smells like lemon, and it has very little pollen, but can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also visited by a variety of insects.
