Brown Trumpet Flower

Flower type: Biennial (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This small flower grows up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. Its yellow-green stem is thin and straight with a curved tip, and the large, yellow-green leaves are spear shaped with toothed edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

5 to 8 medium-sized flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with petals that are grey at the sides and brown at the center. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet with 7 tightly layered, narrow petals. They detach easily.

It has a strong scent that smells like meat, and it has excessive amounts of pollen. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also visited by a variety of insects.

Offering it in a bouquet is supposed to bring good luck.
