Amberfern

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 174 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has many sturdy, twisting stems covered in wrinkled, brown bark, and the wood inside is white.

The branches trail down to the ground with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with small amounts of miniature, wispy, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are orange-yellow with aquamarine tips, light and soft.

It produces a handful of medium-sized, amber flowers with asymmetrical petals. They are very delicate and have a fairly strong scent that smells like bonfire smoke. In late autumn it forms smalldark grey seed pods.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
A particular bird species likes to nest in it.
It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
