Copperleaf

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This large shrub grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for around 25 years. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has many thick, crooked stems covered in fine, smooth, copper-coloured bark, and the wood inside is yellow.

The branches are short stubs with thousands of twigs that and are covered with sparse amounts of large, stiff, pointed, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are found in white, cyan and grey varieties, durable and crispy.

In late summer it produces large amounts of small, olive blossoms with stiff, pointed petals. They are sturdy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like mango.

In early winter small long, curved fruits ripen. The soft yellow skin is peel-able and inedible, and the soft azure flesh is extremely sour and oily. The brilliant red seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

It is suitable for making paper
