Blackberry

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 16 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, slanted trunk covered in paper-thin, silky, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the flexible wood is gray.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of small, long, tapering leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of amber that gradient shifts to sky blue at the top.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of small, copper blossoms with long, narrow petals. They are very delicate and have a weak scent that smells like onion.

In early autumn it produces small, finger-like fruit. The smooth faded green skin is thick and inedible, and the soft crimson flesh is slightly spicy and juicy. The cream seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
