This emerald moss is commonly found blanketing tiny areas In moorlands, In rainy mountain ranges, and In marshes.
It is colossal, growing up to 1.6 feet (48 cm) tall. It forms in extensive patches, and is slightly flimsy.
When mature, emerald oval-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-summer to release thousands of spores; it can cause allergic reactions.

It is often home to a particular bird species.
