Black Trumpet Flower

This modest-sized flower grows up to 9 inches (23 cm) tall. Its moss green stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 5 and are wispy and straight, and split into many branching stems halfway up, and the huge, emerald leaves are thick with irregular edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Two tiny flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 5 cm (2.0 inches) wide, with solid black petals and a caramel central disk. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet made up of handfuls of tightly layered, round-tipped petals. They are hardy.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like onion, and it has lots of pollen,but it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
