Copper Starflower

This enormous flower grows up to 7.2 feet (2.2 meters) tall. Its moss green stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 5 and are wispy and straight, and split into numerous branching stems halfway up, and the tiny, gray-green leaves are circular with rounded edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Each stem splits 2 to 6 times; a single large flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 21 cm (8.3 inches) wide, with each petal a slightly different shade of copper. The flower head is shaped like a star made up of several raised, narrow petals. They are hardy.

It has the faintest scent that smells like onion, and it has a modest amount of pollen. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also visited by a variety of insects.
