Crimson Starflower

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 185 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous knobbly, wavy stems covered in very thick, rough, gray bark, and the wood inside is silver.

The branches are very long and thin with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with thick bunches of small, 7 pointed, leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are found in cream and crimson varieties, flimsy and sticky.

In late summer it produces thousands of large, purple flowers with fan-like petals. They are very delicate and have an intensely strong scent that smells like a newborn baby.
