Azureberry

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 43 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, wonky trunk covered in paper-thin, wrinkled, brown bark, and inside, the flexible wood is pale yellow.

The tangled mess of branches are very long and thin and are covered with handfuls of large, very thin leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are azure on the edges and turquoise at the center.

In early spring, it produces many giant, green blossoms with needle-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have an intensely strong scent that smells like rich perfume.

In late autumn it produces large, perforated fruit. The soft pale purple skin is delicate and bland, and the very soft brilliant orange flesh is sour and savoury and juicy. The red seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
