Brown Shield Moss

This brown moss is commonly found growing in tiny clumps In bogs.
It is short, growing up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. It forms in large clumps and they are slow to spread and grow, and is overwhelmingly light.
When mature, emerald shield-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early autumn to release thousands of spores; it does not cause any allergic reactions.
