Burgundy Starflower

Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in its leaves)

This small flower grows up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. Its burgundy stems grow in bunches of 8 and are very thick and straight, and the small, gray-green leaves are asymmetrical with irregular edges. The leaves grow from the base and are the same length as the stem.

Two tiny flowers sit at the end of each stem. The flowers are 20 cm (7.9 inches) wide, with petals that are either gold or sky blue, with a yellow center. The flower head is shaped like a star with 5 tightly layered, round-tipped petals. They detach easily.

It has an intensely strong scent that smells like vomit, and it has lots of pollen. It is pollinated by a small species of bird.
