Copperfruit

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 16 feet (4.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 69 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, straight trunk covered in rough, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the dense wood is dark brown.

The sparse amount of branches are very short and thick and are covered with large amounts of miniature, broad, flat leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are sky blue on the edges and beige at the center.

In early spring, it produces several small, muted blue blossoms with stiff, pointed petals. They fall easily and have a soft scent that smells like honeysuckle.

In early autumn it produces , circular fruit. The clammy cream skin is stretchy and inedible, and the crunchy magenta flesh is bitter and salty and sticky. The grey seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
