This orange-yellow moss is commonly found growing in medium-sized clumps In damp forests, and In marshes.
It is small, growing up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. It forms in large clumps and they are slow to spread and grow, and is slightly light.
When mature, emerald triangular capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late summer to release dozens of spores.

A particular bird species likes to nest in it.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
Once on fire, it burns very quickly.
