Azureleaf Succulent

Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)

This small leaf succulent grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall. The fan-like stem is red, and is covered in thick bunches of flexible bronze spines. The smooth-edged, sickle shaped leaves are solid azure with magenta zig-zags. Handfuls of them grow from the base in a symmetrical pattern. The leaves are resistant, and do not detach easily.

It is steady-growing, taking 3 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a single flower with solid amber petals decorated with black lines and a cream central disk grows at the top, reappearing after 2 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is largely flat with 12 raised narrow petals. It has a faint scent that smells like fish.

The leaf succulent's skin is rock-hard, the indigo flesh is waxy, and the gold sap is thin and causes upset stomachs if consumed.

It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if cut.
It is suitable for making strong rope
The sap is edible and slightly savoury.
