Copperfruit

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This huge fruit tree grows up to 62 feet (18.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 53 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, twisting trunk covered in delicate, smooth, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the hard wood is burgundy.

The branches are very short and slender and are covered with small bunches of giant, kidney-shaped leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are either copper, or gold with cream edges.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of large, slate blossoms with long, tapering petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a weak scent that smells like bonfire smoke.

In early summer it produces , triangular fruit. The sticky beige skin is delicate and inedible, and the crunchy gold flesh is sweet and powdery. The light brown seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
