Copperberry

This large fruit tree grows up to 28 feet (8.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 61 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in delicate, wrinkled, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the very dense wood is brown.

The excessive amount of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with very large amounts of giant, stiff, pointed leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are gray-green with grey tips.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of large, violet blossoms with stiff, pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a strong scent that smells like pepper.

In late summer it produces large, oblong fruit. The crispy copper skin is peel-able and inedible, and the slightly crunchy gold flesh is salty and sticky. The faded green seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
