Cyan Spine Caudex

This average-sized caudiciform grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall. The pleated stem is gray-green, and is covered in handfuls of rigid cyan spines. The curved, caramel trunk can grow to as much as 4 feet (1.2 meters) in diameter at the top. Its brown branches are short, rigid and upright and start growing at the base the stem.

The small amounts of toothed-edged, circular leaves are slate on the edges and vibrant red at the center. They are strong, but do not detach easily.

It is very fast growing, taking 2 months to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with petals that are red in the center, aquamarine in the middle and blue at the edges grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is shaped like a dish with 55 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. It has a mildly strong scent that smells like coconut.

The caudiciform's skin is very thick, the blue flesh is waxy, and the hazel sap is thin.
