Bluebell

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short flower grows up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. Its brown stem is very thin and straight with a curved tip, and the giant, orange leaves are dark green on the underside and are perforated with wavy edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

A single tiny flower sits at the end of each stem. The flowers are 5 cm (2.0 inches) wide, with each petal a slightly different shade of blue. The flower head is made up of 34 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight dish. They are sturdy.

It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like coffee, and it has a modest amount of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also particularly attractive to insects.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
A particular bird species likes to nest in it.
Both the grass and the grains are savoury and slightly toxic.
