Blue Petal

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.7 feet (51 cm) tall. Its white or aquamarine stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 3 and are very thin and straight, and split into several branching stems a quarter of the way up, and the giant, white or aquamarine leaves are very thick with irregular edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

Each stem splits 1 to 3 times; a single giant flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 9 cm (3.5 inches) wide, with brilliant blue petals that gradient shift to cyan on the outer edge. The central disk is red. The flower head is largely flat with 54 tightly layered narrow petals. They are sturdy.

It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like coconut, and it has very little pollen. It is a self-pollinator.
