Bloodfruit Tree

This big fruit tree grows up to 43 feet (13.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 47 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, curved trunk covered in paper-thin, ridged, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the very light wood is mahogany-coloured.

The numerous branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with thick bunches of giant, stiff, pointed leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are generally cyan.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of medium-sized, amber blossoms with cylindrical petals. They are hardy and have a faint scent that smells like blood.

In late summer it produces tiny, circular fruit. The fuzzy purple skin is peel-able and sweet, and the very soft muted orange flesh is sour and syrupy. The caramel seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.
