Azure Blossom

This large shrub grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for around 44 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has dozens of slender, wonky stems covered in hard, smooth, silver bark, and the wood inside is pine-coloured.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright with dozens of twigs that and are covered with thick bunches of large, perforated, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either azure, or grey with intense blue edges, rigid and leathery.

In early spring it produces handfuls of giant, green blossoms with 5 umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a strong scent that smells like sugar.

In mid-autumn fan-like fruits ripen. The rough azure skin is peel-able and sweet, and the slightly crunchy grey flesh is sweet and juicy. The red seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.
