Starlight Purple

Flower type: Perennial (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This small flower grows up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. Its red stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 6 and are thick and straight, and split into numerous branching stems halfway up, and the tiny, green or purple leaves are wide with toothed edges. The leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

Two small flowers sit at the end of each stem. The flowers are 4 cm (1.6 inches) wide, with petals that are cyan in the center, olive in the middle and bold purple at the edges. The flower head is shaped like a star made up of 12 tightly layered, narrow petals. They are sturdy.

It has a soft scent that smells like leather, and it has an average amount of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird.
