Copperleaf

This modest-sized caudiciform grows up to 32 feet (9.8 meters) tall. The spear shaped stem is pink-red, and is covered in thousands of flexible olive spines. It has a twisting, very thick, yellow trunk atop a very thick platform of ridged, exposed roots. The branches are stumpy and burgundy and are very long and thick.

The jagged-edged, circular leaves are lime and copper. They are sturdy, but easily come away when pulled.

It is steady-growing, taking 4 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with solid aquamarine petals and a light brown central disk, grow at the top, reappearing after 10 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a star with 10 raised, round-tipped petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like freshly washed clothes.

The caudiciform's skin is tough, the caramel flesh is rubbery, and the brown sap is thin and causes diarrhea if consumed.
