Copperfruit

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 36 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, wavy trunk covered in thin, ridged, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the dense wood is silver.

The branches are very long and thick and are covered with handfuls of small, wide leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of gray that gradient shifts to turquoise at the top.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of large, copper blossoms with finger-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a soft scent that smells like meat.

In mid-summer it produces , oval fruit. The sticky deep red skin is thin and edible when roasted; it is sweet and spicy, and the slightly crunchy grey flesh is slightly savoury and dry. The dark brown seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
