Bluebrush

This average-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 199 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous very thick, angular stems covered in cracked, brown and grey bark, and the wood inside is pine-coloured.

The branches are very short and thick with dozens of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, wispy, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid bright blue or slate, with silver zig-zags, hardy and waxy.

In late spring it produces thick bunches of giant, yellow blossoms with many layers of petals. They fall easily and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like sweat.

In early winter tiny triangular fruits ripen. The clammy pale green skin is stretchy and inedible, and the soft bronze flesh is bitter and dry. The grey seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.
