Copperleaf

Flower type: Annual (Stores water in its leaves)

This average-sized flower grows up to 1.3 feet (38 cm) tall. Its copper stem is wispy, and the giant, green leaves are light copper and yellow-green on the underside and are very thin with smooth edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

Two giant flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 24 cm (9.4 inches) wide, with each petal a slightly different shade of magenta. The flower head is largely flat with 22 tightly layered narrow petals. They are sturdy.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like bleach, and it has copious amounts of pollen. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also particularly attractive to insects.

Once on fire, it burns very quickly.
