Bronze

This big flower grows up to 6.3 feet (1.9 meters) tall. Its brown stem is very thick and straight with a curved tip, and the huge, lime green leaves are circular with toothed edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

5 to 11 large flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 12 cm (4.7 inches) wide, with petals that are bronze on the underside and black on the top. The flower head is shaped like a cup made up of several tightly layered, narrow petals. They fall easily.

It has a delicate scent that smells like ashes, and it has a modest amount of pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also visited by a variety of insects.
