Magentafern

This colossal shrub grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 189 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of stocky, wavy stems covered in thick, rough, dark brown bark, and the wood inside is gray.

The branches trail down to the ground with dozens of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of miniature, needle-like, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are brilliant green with magenta tips, rigid and rough.

In mid-summer it produces dozens of small, light brown blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have the faintest scent that smells like honeysuckle.

In late winter small slender, 4 pointed fruits ripen. The hairy gentle purple skin is peel-able and edible when cooked; it is salty, and the soft crimson flesh is savoury and oily. The black seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.
