Bronzeberry

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 47 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in cracked, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the dense wood is burgundy.

The numerous branches trail down to the ground and are covered with very large amounts of giant, wide leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are either dark brown, or silver with beige zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces several small, turquoise blossoms with fan-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have an overpowering scent that smells like rotting meat.

In early winter it produces , broad, flat fruit. The soft bronze skin is thick and inedible, and the crunchy silver flesh is bitter and spicy and syrupy. The dark grey seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
