Crimson Spire

This short caudiciform grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall. The spear shaped stem is pink-red, and is dotted with small silver spines. It has a crooked, slender, florescent orange trunk atop a thick web of rough, exposed roots. The branches are wide and orange and are very long and thin.

The rounded-edged, very thin leaves are yellow and peach. They are light, but easily come away when pulled.

It is steady-growing, taking 13 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with solid orange petals and a cream central disk grow at the top, reappearing after 6 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of several petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight bowl. It has a powerful scent that smells like wet dog.

The caudiciform's skin is delicate, the orange flesh is waxy, and the crimson sap is thin and can kill if consumed.
