Bloodberry Tree

This giant fruit tree grows up to 71 feet (21.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 48 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, crooked trunk covered in paper-thin, ridged, gray bark, and inside, the flexible wood is pale brown.

The small handful of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with sparse amounts of small, sickle shaped leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are violet and purple.

In early spring, it produces dozens of medium-sized, bright red blossoms with shield-shaped petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like onion.

In early autumn it produces tiny, broad, flat fruit. The waxy blood red skin is peel-able and inedible, and the soft brilliant blue flesh is sweet and spicy and dry. The slate seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.
