Coilfruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 41 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, crooked trunk covered in delicate, waxy, black bark, and inside, the very light wood is yellow-brown.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with copious amounts of small, thin leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid gold with black streaks.

In early spring, it produces a handful of large, yellow blossoms with shield-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a weak scent that smells like glue.

In late autumn it produces small, broad, flat fruit. The hairy caramel skin is thin and sweet and sour, and the crunchy indigo flesh is sweet and oily. The light green seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
